FAQs > Printer Ink & Cartridges FAQs
How do I search for the correct cartridge for my machine?
Each make of machine has a corresponding cartridge or toner that is designed to fit it exactly. Use our ‘printer ink finder’ to find what you’re looking for – fill in the ‘manufacturer’ field, the ‘type’ field and the ‘name’ field (all this info will be on the front of your machine) and a list of suitable cartridges/toners will be displayed.
What are compatible cartridges?
These are laser cartridges, which have been designed exactly like the branded cartridges available but sell at a cheaper cost (usually around 40% cheaper). The quality and number of pages they can print is exactly the same as the branded version.
When you search for a cartridge, compatible options will be included in your search list.
What are re-manufactured cartridges?
These are cartridges, which have been recycled - old ones are taken apart, cleaned and then re-filled. Again, there is no difference in quality and as they are recycled they are the most eco-friendly option.
Similar to compatible cartridges, the quality and number of pages they can print is matched to the branded version.
If you would like to recycle your old cartridges, please visit Action Aid Recycling – they will pick up your empty cartridges for free and the profit made from recycling them goes towards the charity Action Aid.
Does buying manufactured or compatible cartridges (as opposed to the branded versions) affect the warranty of my machine?
No, it is illegal for a manufacturer to stipulate that you must use their cartridges/toners in order for your warranty to remain valid.
How long should a cartridge/toner last?
It really depends upon how much printing you do. The ‘page life’ of the cartridge shows how many pages it can print before running out – the industry standard for defining a printed page is 5% ink coverage.
