What do you base your decision on when buying a printer?

Back to articles

Is it the cost of the ink cartridges or is it based on what you actually need it for!

A blog on If It Prints, I'll Let You Know stated that need should be the driving force behind an individual's choice.

Following this blog there were several questions raised, below are a couple of examples;

  • What kind of printing will you be doing?
  • What are the features that you need for the print jobs you will produce?

While it is nice to have a printer which can scan, copy and fax if you aren’t going to use these features isn’t it simply a waste!

The other side of the coin is highlighted by James Derk the owner of a computer repairs firm, CyberDads who said that ink cartridge costs were an important feature in making your decision on which printer to buy. He suggested that making sure you knew how much the printer ink cartridges would cost should be the first question and whether or not you would actually need to print any colour documents should be the next.
