Printer ink cartridges are probably the biggest overall cost you’ll endure over the life of your printer. You may think that you got a great deal on a cheap printer, but then most likely have reeled in shock when you found out how much money each printer cartridge was! As least there are cheaper options for cartridges, including remanufactured, compatible and refilled cartridges. These will still provide you with good quality print outs, but at a lower cost. We’re going to give you a few tips on how to get take good care of and therefore get the most out of, your printer cartridge:
- To begin with, ensure that you read the ink cartridge instructions, as they are quite particular. Under no circumstances should the ink cartridge be left in a vehicle, as the ink will expand and eventually leak out of the cartridge.
When handling the ink cartridge, make sure your hands don’t touch the copper plate on it. The copper plates would initially arrive with a plastic covering over it to prevent static electricity from damaging the cartridge head. If the copper plate comes into contact with static electricity, then the cartridge will not work effectively.
Monitor/inspect your printouts- look out for blurry lines or dots. If you spot these, then it is likely that the cartridge head requires a clean. Simply run the cleaning function on the printer a couple of times and see if your printout quality improves.
If one of the colours runs out in your tricolour ink cartridge, then don’t continue to print with it. It’s important to remember to never allow the ink cartridge to entirely run out of ink, as this could cause the circuit head on the ink cartridge to burn out, causing permanent printer damage.
